After the app is installed and set up it automatically grabs your photos and adds them to your cloud. I tested out Amazon's photo service shortly after they opened up-believe me, Google's is much better and its free (or super cheap if you want to store original high res copies).
I can take a ton of photos with my phone at the farm [lots of chicken photos in my cloud ;)] and they are almost instantly available on the laptop or waiting for me on the desktop when I get home. I also love the Share feature on here, it's so easy to share a photo album with family or friends. I've also used it for event coordinators. Don't want to share? No worries, you only share what you want!
